It’s about that time! Time to make (and BREAK) those New Year’s Resolutions for 2014.
According to USA.gov, the top New Year’s Resolutions are (once again!)
- Lose weight
- Quit smoking
- Get a better job
- Save money
- Get fit
- Eat healthy food
- Manage stress
- Manage debt
- Drink less alcohol
- Get organized
Sound familiar? They were probably the same for last year, and the year before that, and the year before that, and on and on and on….
The amount of people that make New Year’s Resolutions…..45%
The amount of people who succeed at their New Year’s Resolution…8%
The average length of time that a person sticks with their resolution is six weeks. The local YMCA will be full of individuals on the 2nd day of January who have all the best intentions of getting fit and losing weight in 2014. By March, that amount will drop considerably. By June, even less will be committed.
Some suggestions on how to be more successful at your resolutions this year according to the University of Toledo are:
- Find a strong and powerful motivator. Determine the reason that you want to succeed in a particular resolution and use that as a daily motivator.
- Make it a daily task, but allowing for imperfection. Treat your resolutions as a daily task, something you have to do each day. Allow for imperfections, plan ahead on how to deal with those imperfections, and keep going; don’t take it as a sign of failure.
- Set realistic goals. And make them S.M.A.R.T. Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic and Timely.
Finally, why wait for January 1st to start your resolution….Start TODAY!!!
